It has been two years since the tragic passing of artist Iksong Jin in a sudden car accident while participating in an exhibition in New York City in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019d like to take this moment to reflect on the remarkable works and achievements of Iksong Jin, an artist who continually explored the concepts of time and space, and a dedicated educator who shaped future generations as a professor at Chungbuk National University in Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I invite you to the \u201cTimeless Doors\/Reminiscence\u201d exhibition, celebrating the life and legacy of an extraordinary artist, educator, and friend. The exhibition showcases the Timeless Doors series in the city that Iksong loved so much: New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2008, Iksong Jin started the Timeless Door series in his studio near Times Square, New York. He made the pieces by buying thousands of watches, taking them apart, and using the parts in his art. Timeless Door symbolizes an \u201ceternal\u201d or \u201cendless\u201d door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The artwork might show one or two doors, and there are many clocks around them, representing the doors we encounter as time passes. Life goes through stages\u2014birth, youth, adulthood, old age, and death\u2014each shown as a door. We also open personal doors, like love, success, or forgiveness, throughout life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The clocks are depicted as a dual symbol, representing the many people who pass through these doors and the differences, variations, and speeds of time allotted to each individual.

Iksong Jin tragically passed away on August 15, 2022, following a serious three-car accident. The collision occurred when the driver of a 2021 Ford Explorer attempted to overtake a car ahead, crossing the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. The Ford Explorer collided head-on with Iksong\u2019s 2003 Nissan X-Terra. Iksong was on his way home after closing the exhibition he had participated in that day. Despite the quick arrival of emergency responders, Iksong was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
