\nWayward Pen Presents: Works by Alenka Slavinec<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Alenka Slavinec\u2019s <\/strong>\u201cS<\/em>LOVE<\/em><\/strong>NIA <\/em>IN US<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, Opens in New York<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York, NY \u2013 Wayward Pen Foundation, will present \u201cSLOVENIA IN US\u201d, an exhibition<\/p>\n

dedicated to raising the awareness of Slovenia\u2019s heritage and independence, created by photographer<\/p>\n

Alenka Slavinec. This collection of work will exhibit from June 14th through June 25th at the Gallery<\/p>\n

MC. The opening reception for the art exhibition is scheduled on June 14th and the closing party and<\/p>\n

celebration of Slovenia\u2019s sovereignty is scheduled on June 25th.<\/p>\n

This unique exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the beautiful and imaginary world famous Lipizzan<\/p>\n

stallions, Europe\u2019s oldest domesticated breed of horses. It is a tribute to Slovenia\u2019s independence and<\/p>\n

freedom. The majestic white stallions were photographed in their home town in Lipizza, Slovenia at the<\/p>\n

Lipica Stud Farm, which has 430 years of illustrious history. For most of that history, this elegant and<\/p>\n

orderly estate has been the private breeding preserve of noble families and noble horses. Today, everyone<\/p>\n

can enjoy a stroll down the well-tended grounds, visit the spotless stables and paddocks, and witness the<\/p>\n

famous Lipizzan horses dazzling with their dancing feet to classical music.<\/p>\n

\u201cSlovenia in US\u201d premiered at the Slovenian Embassy on February 8, 2011 in Washington D.C., hosted<\/p>\n

by Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor. Alenka chose 20 photographs to represent each year of<\/p>\n

Slovenian independence from 1991 to the present, through the pure form of the Lipizzan stallion, as<\/p>\n

follows: 1991 – Walk Away; 1992 – Our Determination; 1993 – Lipa (Linden Tree); 1994 – First<\/p>\n

Love; 1995 – Elan; 1996 – Behind; 1997 – Horizon; 1998 – Home; 1999 – Run To The Sun; 2000 –<\/p>\n

Millennium Hope; 2001 – Still in the Frame; 2002 – Mature Dream; 2003 – I Belong To You; 2004 –<\/p>\n

Member; 2005 – Beautiful Romance; 2006 \u2013 Never Give Up; 2007 \u2013 Good-Bye, Tolar; 2008 – Heart<\/p>\n

of European Union; 2009 – New Wave; 2010 – Loyalty.<\/p>\n

Alenka Slavinec is one of the finest emerging photographers in Slovenia, known not only as an artist, but<\/p>\n

also as a leading expert and luminary in her field. She is recognized for leading, collaborating, and<\/p>\n

initiating key programs within artistic communities in Slovenia and the United States. Her past work<\/p>\n

includes a public relations position at Satchi & Satchi and an official photographer for The Slovenia<\/p>\n

Times of Ljubljana. Alenka currently serves as a cultural manager at the Museum of Transitory Art<\/p>\n

(MOTA) in Ljubljana and on the board of directors at the Wayward Pen Foundation in New York City,<\/p>\n

a non-profit cross cultural organization dedicated to the exchange between new and emerging European<\/p>\n

primarily Slovenian and American artists.<\/p>\n
