After all, he said to himself, it is probably only insomnia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many must have it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ernest Hemingway, <i>A Clean Well Lighted Place<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gallery MC is pleased to announce <i>Insomnia, <\/i>an exhibition of new large-scale photography work<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">by Dawn K. Chase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Created exclusively at hours of darkness during moments of sleeplessness, Chase creates a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">subdued narrative portraying abstract temporal details in the interiors of New York dwellings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The guiding motif is the shadow, giving a sense of space and volume to each photograph. The<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">artist muses on the intangible aspects of luminosity, encapsulating intricate details of particular<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">outlines, which echo on walls, ceilings or pieces of fixture making her compositions rich in detail<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">and texture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through her lens Chase records patterns of light, shade, and color highlighting the juxtaposition<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">between the bright and dark segments in each and every image. The focus of this opus is a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">succession of intricate two- dimensional silhouettes of raying light. By taking the photographs at<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">night, in dimly lit environments the whole series offers a rich depth of color. The entire body of<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">work exudes warm tonalities and each photograph is imbued with rich hues of ochre, gold and<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">crimson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By representing a myriad of cast shadows Dawn K. Chase signifies a knowledge of perspective,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">three-dimensional space and the symbolism behind it. The mysterious essence of the shadow has<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">intrigued mankind since the earliest beginnings of time and is a vital part of many belief systems<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">emerging throughout art history, mythology and psychology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dawn K. Chase is a New York based photographer. Her work has been exhibited with the HVG<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">arts group and the NoMa Photo Group in Manhattan.
