German soprano and vocal performer Frauke Aulbert will show, teach and talk about her work in contemporary music, extended singing techniques and improvisation<\/p>\n
Vocal multi-phonics, overtone and undertone singing and other experimental techniques might be focused on. An open discussion will examine where the “extension” in vocal work actually begins: with non-vibrato singing? Or is even lyrical singing extended? Frauke Aulbert aims a flexible, multi-color voice approach which sophisticatedly and highly musically adjusts to both the personal voice of the performer AND the requirements of a score. This exciting event will begin with a performance by Ms. Aulbert displaying various and also extreme singing techniques, followed by an open discussion. The second half will be a masterclass\/workshop for vocalists interested in working on specific pieces (Berio, Cage, Scelsi, Aperghis for example) or a specific technique and composers wishing to learn more about exploring, understanding and incorporating them.<\/p>\n

Frauke Aulbert, soprano, multivocalist<\/p>\n
As \u201cHamburg\u2019s queen of avantgarde\u201d (Hamburger Abendblatt Jan. 2010), Frauke Aulbert boasts a vocal range of four octaves and has specialized in the contemporary vocal performance having mastered overtone- and undertone-singing, multiphonics and other timbre-altering techniques, in addition to her formal training in lyrical singing. As a vocal-sound-researcher she studies, describes and sings many different genres – including gamelan, jazz, chanson, dhrupad, beatboxing, h\u00f6\u00f6mii \u2013 and applies those sounds to her interpretation of contemporary vocal music. Improvisation and (premi\u00e8re) performances of pieces specifically written for her voice have led to performance in festivals all over Europe, such as the Casa Giacinto Scelsi in Rome, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, International Stockhausen-Summerclasses,
Frauke Aulbert has collaborated with the composers Georges Aperghis, Vinko Globokar, Hans-Joachim Hespos, Simon Stockhausen, Geoffroy Drouin and Alexander Schubert. For the German-American film drama The Future (2011, Miranda July) she sang birdsongs in a studio-recording. The French composer and jazz flutist Magic Malik engaged her for his newest album (CD-release September 2013). She studied in Kiel, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Hamburg (diploma) and has attended masterclasses with Lauren Newton, Sainkho Namchylak, David Moss, Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Maria Husmann, Michael Vetter, Jennifer Walshe, Michiko Hirayama, Linda Wise and Amelia Cuni. Her dissertation examined \u201cOvertone Singing in Contemporary Music.\u201d In 2012 she was awarded a one month residency in Rome by the Goethe-Institute and received a grant from the Culture Secretary of Germany providing for a six month residency in the Cit\u00e9 Internationale des Arts Paris. Her work and her concerts are supported a.o. by the Ministery of Culture of Germany, IMPULS New Musik, the Stockhausen Foundation, Feldtmann kulturell, the Deutsche Ausw\u00e4rtige Amt, the Hamburger Kulturbeh\u00f6rde and the Foundation Katharina und Gerhard Hoffmann.<\/p>\n
