Hultgren, an accomplished performer of new and adventurous<br \/>\nmusic, will perform works for cello and electronics, many written<br \/>\nspecifically for him. Composers featured on this concert include Rusty<br \/>\nBanks, James Bohn, Monroe Golden, Melissa Grey, Dorothy Hindman, Douglas<br \/>\nOvens, and Robert Voisey. Hultgren will also perform his Improvisation for<br \/>\namplified cello. He will be joined by the composer James Bohn on his piece<br \/>\nChamonefor cello, toy piano, and sound file.<\/p>\n<p>For several decades, cellist Craig Hultgrenhas been a fixture on the scenes<br \/>\nfor new music, the newly creative arts, and the avant-garde. Recently<br \/>\nleaving Birmingham after more than 30 years as a member of the Alabama<br \/>\nSymphony, he now resides outside of Decorah, Iowa as the farmer-cellist. A<br \/>\nrecipient of two Artist Fellowships from the Alabama State Council on the<br \/>\nArts, he was a member for many years of Th\u00e1myris, a contemporary chamber<br \/>\nmusic ensemble in Atlanta. He is a founding member of Luna Nova, a new music<br \/>\nensemble with a large repertoire of performances available as podcast<br \/>\ndownloads on iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>Hultgren is featured in three solo CD recordings including The<br \/>\nElectro-Acoustic Cello Book on Living Artist Recordings. For ten years, he<br \/>\nproduced the Hultgren Solo Cello Works Biennial, an international<br \/>\ncompetition that highlighted the best new compositions for the instrument.<br \/>\nHe taught at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Alabama School of<br \/>\nFine Arts and Birmingham-Southern College where he directed the BSC New<br \/>\nMusic Ensemble. He is a founding member and former President of the<br \/>\nBirmingham Art Music Alliance and was on the Board of Directors of the<br \/>\nMetropolitan Youth Orchestras of Birmingham and their Scrollworks program.<br \/>\nHultgren recently performed a Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame concert titled Occupy<br \/>\nCello in New York for the Composer\u2019s Voice Concert Series. That program<br \/>\nfeatured 15 one-minute solo compositions that challenge the traditional<br \/>\nboundaries of the instrument. Last fall, he was the featured performer for<br \/>\nthe La Crosse New Music Festival in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2014 by Robert Voisey, Circuit Bridgesis a concert<br \/>\nseriesdedicated to creating a community for creators of electroacoustic<br \/>\nmusic and strives to explore all that is included, and currently being<br \/>\ninnovated, under the electroacoustic umbrella, such as sonic art, radio art,<br \/>\nglitch, circuit bending, electronica, real-time improvisation, network<br \/>\nperformance, audiovisual composition, mash-up, and data sonification.Our<br \/>\nmission is to connect with similar organizations from around the globe that<br \/>\nfoster and promote innovative electroacoustic music and sound.
