The work of Milan Adam\u010diak, a Slovak conceptual artist, re-awakens in the innovative project Dots.Lines.Shapes. Cluster ensemble presents a selection of his graphic scores in the form of musical performance. Adam\u010diak is a pioneer of Slovak conceptual art. In the 2nd part of the 20th century, Adam\u010diak was noticeably influenced by the work of the artistic group Fluxus and John Cage. With John Cage, he managed to establish a long-lasting artistic friendship \u201cacross\u201d the Iron Curtain. After 1989, it was he who initiated Cage\u2019s visit to Slovakia.The work of Milan Adam\u010diak is elaborate and profound. Along with works meant for musical interpretation, there is his visual poetry, experimental poetry, performance and happenings. His graphic scores, framed in a carefully formulated typology, are conceptual visual artworks and, simultaneously, unconventional compositions, frequently interpreted by musicians home and abroad. From the sixties onwards he devoted a great deal of his time to working on these, and has left us with more than 400 of them. Cluster ensemble has been performing these pieces in various forms and line-ups since 2013.This event is a fringe event of the Composers Concordance 2017 \u2013 2018 season. A special guest at this performance will be Polish artist Karolina Kubik.<\/p>\n

This event is a part of Cluster ensemble\u2019s autumn tour 3 Things. The tour 3 Things 2017 was supported from public funds by Slovak Arts Council.<\/p>\n

Cluster ensemble formed in 2009 in Bratislava, Slovakia. It all started with the Slovak premiere of Steve Reich\u2019s Six Pianos, performed in a piano store in Bratislava. Since then, the loose grouping of artists has played at home, but also in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Norway, USA to name a few.<\/p>\n

Their repertoire consists of interpretation of works of contemporary composers as well as great composers of 20th century and interdisciplinary art projects focused on breaking the boundaries of artistic interpretation. They perform rarely-played ensemble works by composers such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich and John Cage and also create their own artistic projects. Till today, almost 50 musicians, dancers, fine artists and other artists from Europe and USA collaborated with Cluster ensemble. Their first album, Cluster ensemble plays Philip Glass, was released in June 2016 on Slovak label Hevhetia and on Orange Mountain Music in USA and was sold out in a couple of months.<\/p>\n
