Amalgamated – Mongolian Contemporary Art

October 1 – 31, 2013

Opening reception October 1, 6-8pm

Gallery MC is pleased to announce the group exhibition Amalgamated – Mongolian Contemporary Art curated by Boshko Boskovic.

The exhibition Amalgamated – Mongolian Contemporary Art is a micro narrative focusing on artists that come from Mongolia showcasing works of recent production in diverse media. Identifying and creating a survey of Mongolian contemporary art from a western perspective can be a difficult task since it can have different connotations depending from which geographic point one observes. This endeavor does not have an aspiration to formulate a survey of the Mongolian artistic scene yet compose an impression of artists that have the same heritage and a common denominator, a culture and land distant to most New York audiences. The exhibition paints a picture of artists that span different generations; most of them preoccupied with the reality of their immediate environment and different aspects of contemporary society and identity. The selection comprises of twelve artists and there is a clear delineation between the works of artists that draw their inspiration from their heritage and the ones that are more lyrical in nature. The authors utilize the medium of drawing, painting, photography, collage, sculpture, performance and video to create their proper narratives.

The artists included in the exhibition are Dulgun Baatarsukh, Nasantsengel Bayanjargal, Nandin Erdene Budzagd, Batzorig Dugursuren, Tsultemin Enkhjin, Munkhbolor Ganbold, Munkhtsetseg Jalkhaajav, Khongorzul Lkhagvajav, Batzorig Mart, Nomad Wave collective, Enkhbold Togmidshirev and Tuguldur Yondonjamts.

The exhibition was sponsored by Altai Expeditions www.altaiexpeditions.com in partnership with Ts Enkhjin, the Chairman of the Union of Mongolian Artists, Nasantsengel Bayanjargal and Zolbayar Enkhtaivan from Ullaanbaatar, Mongolia. Valuable support was provided by the Permanent Mission of Mongolia to the United Nations in New York.
