Bleecker StQ

GALLERY MC presents Bleecker StQ in their first performance of 2013.

Gallery MC presents Bleecker StQ in a concert featuring string quartets by Armando Bayolo, Zoltan Kodaly, Silvestre Revueltas, and Anton Webern, with the Manhattan premiere of Randall Woolf’s Revenge!, a 13-minute string quartet with pre-recorded electronics and video by Ladislaw Starewicz, the father of stop-motion animation. In the early 20th century, Starewicz made short, humorous films starring insects, frogs and the like, using stop-motion animation to make them move like people. Revenge! is a new score for his film The Cameraman’s Revenge, which can be seen, in excerpt, on YouTube: http://youtu.be/5Q-BVvqLio8

Bleecker StQ was founded in 2010 by four musicians who wanted to perform über-groovy music, no matter what the genre: Contemporary, World, Pop, Improvisational, & Classical. Their debut performance that year drew four-star critiques and offered them opportunities to perform more works of living composers. Their concerts have included performances with pianist Pablo Ziegler in New York City and California, and collaborations with composers/performers such as Octavio Brunetti, Steve Cohen, Dan Cooper, Hector del Curto, and Gene Pritsker, among others. Their repertoire includes works by Classical masters like Haydn and Mozart to modern innovators such as Mauricio Kagel and Silvestre Revueltas. To date, they have performed at venues such as St. Peter’s Church in the Citicorp building, Columbia University, Symphony Space, and the Robert Mondavi Center. The members of Bleecker StQ have diverse backgrounds, being involved in groups such as Absolute Ensemble, DJ Spooky’s ensemble, the East Village Opera Company band, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Eternal Tango Orchestra, and Zentripetal. Bleecker StQ are: Machiko Ozawa & Lynn Bechtold, violins; Edmundo Ramirez, viola; Jisoo Ok, cello.
