Mihail Korubin: Gaze- Large Scale Paintings

April 16th – 28th, 2019

Reception for the Artist on Thursday, April 18th from 6 to 8 pm

Exhibition Title: Gaze

In the place where I was born and where I grew up, the eyes of the prophets, the saints and the angels are wide open. Generations of my kin looked into those eyes, but those eyes and their clear gaze are now directed at me. It is a gaze that invokes a sense of a special, personal connection and a feeling of ceremony and sanctity that follow me constantly.

In the beginning, there is only abstraction.
Different lines, colours and rhythms appear on the canvas and I intuitively recognize myself in them. I am always searching for that primary state from which the energy and the atmosphere will be transformed into a synthesis of emotions that will give birth to the gaze.
So begins my endless story of light, hands, eyes and faces that simultaneously look like everyone and no one.

Eye to Eye, the contact brings me closer to the pictorial space and enhances the expected presence. It hints at the strength and the magic of the moment which is yet to reach its zenith.

Aura, Anima, longing, Essence, Catharsis…

These are not moments which have been selected randomly from my past experiences, but are happening now and are frozen in time somewhere between the before and after.
