IN THAT DIRECTION

IN THAT DIRECTION
In That Direction is a collection of six young artists whose work explores forms of play and functionality. The notion of ‘play’ allows artists to create without a predetermined certainty, which releases any categorization on their work. ‘Functionality’ refers to the degrees to which an object can fulfill a given objective. The selected group of work obscures both meanings and constructs a space that is in-between the physical and imagined. The lives of the works are contingent upon the viewers’ participation in order to be fully activated.

The work of Anneli Goeller, Ian Costello, and Kerim Zapsu intervene with the particular utilities of machines and appropriate their functions into a subjective space. Julie Moon, Lauren Rodriguez, and Adam Echahly employ formal elements as interior structures to create works that are apparent in their formal constitution, but more nuanced in their interpretations.
