“In her first appearance on stage, Irena Kavkalevska was a true Carmen, the unscrupulous seductress. She ruled the stage and led the drama, feeling utterly comfortable in the role.” A winner of many prizes and educated in Skopje, Sofia, Graz and Zagreb, Irena Kavkalevska has appeared at a number of festivals and in various opera houses. Her repertoire includes the roles of Carmen (“Carmen”), Isabella (“The Italian Girl in Algiers”), Cinderella (“Cinderella”), Rosina (“The Barber of Seville”), Angelica (“Sister Angelica”), Amneris (“Aida”), Fenena (“Nabucco”), Maddalena (“Rigoletto”), Preziosilla (“The Power of Fate”), Julius Caesar (“Julius Caesar in Egypt”), Orpheus (“Orpheus and Eurydice”), Laura (“The Stone Guest”), Count Orlowsky (“The Bat”), Vanya (“Ivan Susanin”), Nicklausse (“The Tales of Hoffmann”), and Lola (“Cavalleria Rusticana”). Mrs. Kavkalevska is also a concert singer, performing in Beethoven’s “Simphony No. 9”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Delibes’ “Messe Breve” and Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” (with the philharmonic orchestras of Skopje, Sofia, Dubrovnik and Tokyo), as well as the alt solo in Haydn’s “Mass for troubled times” at the 1992 Youth Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, and Mahler’s “Songs of a Wayfarer” with the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2005 Mrs. Kavkalevska works as a soloist at the Macedonian National Opera.

Janinka Nevcheva graduated at the piano department of the Faculty of Music in Skopje. At that time, the focus of her interest was Bach’s music for piano, as well as the Russian composers, thanks to her mentor Boris Romanov. During her musical studies in Paris (from 2000 to 2005) her field of interest broadened, and she studied contemporary piano repertoire with Martine Joste and Claude Helffer, both well-renowned concert pianists. She has performed as a solo pianist and in chamber music ensembles in different European countries (Italy, France, Germany), as well as at music festivals in Macedonia. In 2005 she was hired as a piano accompanist at the Macedonian National Opera. Since then, she has collaborated with many artists, including singers, conductors and stage directors from all over the world. From 2006 to 2012 she ran a small pedagogical center in Skopje, where she introduced certain innovations in the field of music pedagogy for pre-school children. Ms. Nevcheva has made recordings for the Macedonian National Radio, and has contributed with piano parts in film music. Her solo recording of the piano works by the Macedonian composer Aleksandar Pejovski “Le Tombeau” stands out as one of the highlights of her pianist career.
